Developing an entrepreneurial mindset

At some point in our lives, we may have had the opportunity to talk with grandparents, uncles, aunts, or any people from a different, older generation, and it usually goes like: “Things were different back then.” For our generation, however, changes have never happened any faster.

Everything, from the way we use transportation to how order food changes, has changed, disrupted, and often transcended global markets at unparalleled rates, and it is not only technology and consumer goods. Think about social changes, especially the relationship between jobs and the world, and even the skills demanded by the market are changing at the same rate. How can we adapt to meet the demands of the 21st century?

The answer: Develop our entrepreneurial mindset.

What is an entrepreneurial mindset?

Those unfamiliar with the word entrepreneurial may read it and instantly think, "This could never be me." However, I'll have to ask you to stop right there!

Entrepreneurial mindset is a myriad of characteristics that you can continue to learn and cultivate throughout your career. It is a commitment to life-time learning. It means fostering creativity. For those of you who again feel discouraged, creativity can be learned and is critical for helping you think outside the box or, in other words, solve problems through new solutions.

In addition to creativity, there's self-learning. If you’ve ever taught yourself a new language or spent sleepless nights learning how to cook a delicious meal for your family, you are a self-learner too! In a world where everything becomes old so fast, learning how to adapt to the "new new" is quite important and requires a continuous commitment to learning skills and frameworks that can be applied to your work.

However, none of those can be applied without a growth mindset. All of us make mistakes, but what differentiates those with an entrepreneurial mindset is the ability to identify mistakes and learn from them. Taking it a step further, individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset will be able to integrate these learnings to better solve whatever challenge they might face.
